SCHOOL CLOSURE CONNECTION: Supporting our students and families through COVID-19

CONEXIóN DE CIERRE ESCOLAR: Apoyonuestros estudiantes y familias a través de COVID-19

March 30, 2020

Dear students and families,

Today we launched our new delivery system to provide students with breakfast and lunch meals while schools are closed. We would like to thank our transportation provider, First Student, for working so quickly and diligently to help modify bus routes and schedules and prepare drivers for this new service.

As to be expected in a new operation, we did see some glitches with certain routes and schedules. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to streamline this program. We know these are stressful times for everyone, and our goal is to make this service as convenient and helpful to families as possible. Please rest assured that we and our partners at First Student are doing everything we can to improve the process moving forward.

Roseburg Public Schools will begin offering Emergency Childcare for healthcare workers and first responders on April 1st. Coronavirus Updates and Information

Time to start preparing for online registration

Roseburg School District is establishing an online registration process that will be used by all new and existing students beginning with the 2020-21 school year.

Students and families should be prepared to begin the online registration process this spring. We will be providing specific dates soon. Previously, online registration was made available only for new students in the 2019-20 school year. Returning and re-enrolling students will now also be required to register online.

In the meantime, now is a good opportunity to make sure your ParentVue account is activated. The Synergy ParentVUE portal gives parents web access to their student’s information and communication with teachers. This will be the platform parents use to register their students online. For secondary schools, Parent Teacher Conferences will also be scheduled through ParentVue.

You can access ParentVue by visiting: http://bit.ly.7uccoin.com/2SyOOvy.

If you have students already enrolled in our district, you need to obtain your ParentVue activation code from your student’s school.

If you do not have students enrolled in the district yet, you can find instructions about creating a ParentVue account through our online registration guide found at www.roseburg.k12.or.us/depts/parents/OLRegistrationForms

If you have questions about accessing an existing account, please contact your student’s school directly for assistance in getting logged in.

Now is also a good time to begin preparing forms and information required for the registration process. Be sure to review the “District Wide” list of forms, in addition to the Elementary or Middle School/High School lists on our website. (Some forms may repeat in more than one area.) Please note that all required forms will need to be completed and submitted to your student’s school to finalize the registration process.

If you do not have computer access, please contact the front desk at your student’s school for assistance.

Inclement Weather

Roseburg School District determines whether to delay or close school based on the following considerations:

  • the ability to operate school buses safely
  • the ability of students and parents to drive safely
  • the ability of students to walk safely
  • the ability of employees to get to work on time and safely??

When inclement weather is forecasted, Roseburg School District officials begin examining road conditions around 4 in the morning, by driving some bus routes and tuning into local weather reports.

Our priority is to ensure that travel is safe for ALL students, meaning while conditions in some areas of town may appear clear, other areas may be experiencing ice, heavy snow or other hazardous conditions.

Decisions to delay or close school will be made by 5:30 a.m. A decision to close school following a delay will be made by 7:30 a.m. The decision to delay or close school may be made the day prior if necessary.

Families will receive notifications through our One Call system and can refer to our website and Facebook page for notifications as well.

New funding is coming to Oregon schools

New funding is coming to Oregon schools through the Student Success Act, and we want to hear from students, families and other community members about how to best support student success. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey and become a part of this exciting opportunity.

Safer Together

Roseburg Public Schools joins community partners to increase student safety

Roseburg Public Schools on Oct. 4 organized the first session of quarterly Safer Together meetings intended to strengthen relationships between the district and our community safety agencies.

District staff and administrators joined representatives from over a dozen partner organizations at the Roseburg Public Safety Center for the introductory meeting hosted by Superintendent Jared Cordon. Topics of discussion included the need to increase communication and streamline emergency planning and processes; build and deepen relationships; and provide training and practice scenarios.

The goal behind these ongoing meetings is to create safer schools for our students. During this first meeting, we focused on the Standard Response Protocol as an example of how our organizations can better work together. The SRP was developed by The “I Love You Guys” Foundation and is intended to serve as a uniform classroom response to any incident. Steps include the familiar Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate and Reunify, as well as the Shelter and Hold concepts. Schools across the country, including Roseburg Public Schools, employ these protocols.

Our goal is to ensure that when an incident occurs, all of the responding agencies are familiar with school protocols, as well as other safety practices school officials may need to use in an emergency. We will look to public safety officials to guide us in this process and help us develop best practices.

Roseburg Public Schools would like to thank everyone who signed on to help make our schools and our community safer: Roseburg Police Department; Roseburg Fire Department: Douglas County Sheriff’s Office; Douglas County Fire District No. 2; Oregon State Police; Bay Cities Ambulance; Umpqua Community College; Douglas County Public Works; Douglas County 911; Douglas Education Service District; The News-Review; Boys & Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley; The Ford Family Foundation; Zolezzi Insurance Agency; Safe Oregon.

Emergency Closure Notice

The arrival of fall reminds us that in a few months inclement weather or dangerous road conditions might cause us to need to use our One-Call Now telephone system for contacting parents.? With One Call Now we can contact parents personally and relatively quickly when school must be delayed or closed because of weather conditions (or for any other important announcement). ?Parents who wish to receive One Call Now messages will want to alert their student’s school of any changes to their home or cell phone numbers.

Information about school delays or closures will still be available through local television and radio media, as well as on our district website (www.roseburg.k12.or.us) under the quick link titled Emergency Info.?Decisions about school delays or cancellations because of inclement weather are made by 5:30 a.m. each morning when weather or road conditions are an issue.? However, signing up to be a part of the One Call Now telephone system is the best way to ensure you receive information every time we need to get an important message to you immediately.? Please don’t hesitate to contact your school’s principal or Roseburg Public Schools at (541)440-4014 if you have any questions.

Also, if Roseburg Public Schools must be delayed on a Wednesday, the regular weekly early release schedule will remain in place and students will be released at the regular early release time.
